PFL PLAYOFFS - ROUND 2

One round down, one more to go!  The Super Bowl is a week away, so let’s look at this week’s matchups.

ROUND 2 MATCHUPS

THE SWANSON MEAT TORNADO vs TEAM WASHBURN (Meat Tornado favored by 13)

Team Washburn is coming off an emotional victory after defeating the California Defenders 188-174.  The win can largely be attributed to the Seahawks D/ST 39 points.  After the game, Kimball commented:

”That was the single-greatest performance by any defense this season.”

This week Kimball is pitted against Commissioner Jeremy Pierson, and The Swanson Meat Tornado.  ESPN experts are projecting a Meat Tornado victory by 13 points.  When I talked with Kimball, he mentioned that he was a bit concerned because he has worse matchups this week, the Meat Tornado has good matchups, and he has several key WR’s injured.  But he still likes his chances, and remarked that ”the ball could bounce either way.”

Commissioner Jeremy Pierson, although usually unbiased, had this to say:

Now it’s time for the big boys.  It may be a close game against Team Washburn, but I fully expect to be defending my title next week.  Kimball just barely got his first playoff win ever last week, but that was against Jordan who has been away from fantasy sports for some time. This week the stakes are even higher, and with my veteran experience, I always find a way to win.

THE GRIZ vs A CINDERELLA STORY (Griz favored by 23 points)

The rivalry continues! These teams only met once in the regular season, but had a wager on a week they weren’t playing each other.  The Griz have the edge at 1-0, but A Cinderella Story has been one of the hottest teams to close out this fantasy year.  As you can imagine both teams had plenty to say.  First from #1 ranked Griz:

”I am really looking forward to representing the Pierson Family (R. Reagan) against our arch Nemesis, the Stokes Family (J. Carter).  I love the fact that I am playing Mitch, (former wrestler)...should be a pretty easy win as I have been able to get under his skin for years.  I remember only 2 short years ago at the 50th wedding anniversary, that I (a 48 year old diabetic man) dominated Mitch (in his prime) in  basketball....If I remember correctly, the only time the Stokes have beaten the Pierson's at anything "meaningful" was back in 2005 when Mitch's big brother Anthony somehow won the Super Bowl...Well Mitch, you don't have your big brother on Sunday.  I have to play Mitch this week because he is on my schedule, but I am really looking forward to another Super Bowl showdown with Jeremy....a repeat of last year.”

A Cinderella Story had this to say:

”This is the playoffs and I’m just going to get right to the point. I’m going to give you the same Christmas present I gave Jeff . . . an early break from our league so you can have more time to spend with your family. If you are Tom Brady, then I am Eli Manning. I may not have the best record in the league, but at the end of the day I will be the one with the Lombardi trophy in my case.  I thought I would only have to embarrass you once this season, but it looks like I have to do it again. Normally I would up the stakes with some type of wager, but eliminating The Griz will be satisfaction enough.”

FINAL THOUGHTS
- Not much else to say

PFL PLAYOFFS - ROUND 1

WEEK 13 DETMER AWARD – ONE GOAL 2012

Congratulation to Jeff Pierson on winning his 2nd Detmer Award this season.  Led by Andrew Luck’s 67 points, One Goal was able to beat Team Boutsis 217-118. Jeff’s team has been performing well these last couple of weeks, as we head into the most crucial part of the season . . .

ROUND 1 MATCHUPS

THE GRIZ & THE SWANSON MEAT TORNADO (BYES)

Both teams get a bye for the first round, and an extra week to prepare for the 2nd round.  I asked Clark about his feelings on being the #1 seed this year:
”You know it’s been a new season, but with the same old story.  Once again Commissioner Jeremy Pierson and myself are battling it out for #1 and #2. There’s a reason why Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have been dominant for the last ten years.  They understand the game.  Guys like Jeff, Mitch, Jordan . . . they know football, but simply don’t understand it.  Commissioner Pierson and I are the Peyton Manning and Tom Brady of this league.  We play smart all season, we earn the byes, and we continue our dominance for yet another season.”

TEAM WASHBURN vs CALIFORNIA DEFENDERS (Defenders favored by 5 points)

Kimball and Jordan are both projected to have great weeks, which means things could come down to the wire.  Their head to head record is a tie at 1-1, and although Kimball has had a better overall season, Jordan’s team has been hot these last couple of weeks.  When I asked Jordan about Kimball this week, he responded:

”I think Kimball is a great guy. I like him, but I’m definitely going to make orphans of his children . . .”

I then commented that Kimball’s kids would still have a mother, but then Jordan replied:

"Yes, but I would imagine she will die of grief . . ."

Team Washburn has not yet provided a response.

A CINDERELLA STORY vs ONE GOAL 2012 (Cinderella favored by 2 points)

Mitch and Jeff have had a rivalry this year ever since Jeff’s illegal trade the first week of the season.  Although Jeff admitted it was just a joke, Mitch would later post his reaction on the message boards:

"After a failed attempt at stealing 3 of my starters, by Jeffery Pierson, it looks like I've locked up the first Detmer award of the year. Special thanks to the commissioner for cracking down on the swindler.”

Their rivalry continues this week. The head to head record is a tie at 1-1 this season.  EPSN experts are prediction Mitch wins by only 2 points.  It should be another great matchup.  Here is what Jeff had to say about the big game:

”Mitch has been my little brother all year. This week will be no different. I’m the hottest team in the league the past three weeks. My back has been up against the wall all year. And I don’t plan on losing now.”

Mitch also had some comments for the final showdown:

I’d just like to tell Jeffrey that my boys are ready; and I’m gonna send him into the offseason a little early this year, so that he can spend some extra time with his family.”

FINAL THOUGHTS

- My apologies for the late update.
- Good luck to those teams who have matchups this week.

POWER RANKINGS

1) Team Washburn – 2,067
2) A Cinderella Story – 2,005
3) California Defenders – 1,980
4) The Griz – 1,930
5) The Swanson Meat Tornado – 1,889
6) Show Me Your TD’s – 1,879
7) Team Boutsis – 1,764
8) One Goal 2012 – 1,718

PLAYOFF ANALYSIS

The Griz (8-4) – Clinched either 1st or 2nd seed.  The Griz need a win this week to ensure they get the number 1 seed. They are still tied with the Meat Tornado, but have scored 41 more points this season, which acts as the tie-breaker.  The Griz have a tough match-up against Team Washburn in week 13.

The Swanson Meat Tornado (8-4) – Clinched either 1st or 2nd seed.  To overtake the 1st seed, The Meat Tornado must either win, while The Griz loses, or outscore the Griz by 42 points if both teams win or lose.  The Meat Tornado has a tough match-up against A Cinderella Story in week 13.

Team Washburn (6-6) – Clinched a playoff spot.  Team Washburn is now playing for home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.  If they beat the Griz this week, they will lock it up.  If Washburn loses, and A Cinderella Story and One Goal win, they will lose home field advantage.  They play the Griz in week 13.

A Cinderella Story (6-6) – Clinched a playoff spot.  Cinderella is also playing for home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.  If they beat The Meat Tornado, they will lock it up.  If Cinderella loses, and One Goal wins, they will lose it.  They also may lose home field if they lose and The California Defenders win, and score 26 more points in week 13.

One Goal 2012 (6-6) – In playoff hunt.  One Goal will lock up a playoff spot if they beat Team Boutsis.  If One Goal loses, they would still make the playoffs if the California Defenders lose to Show Me Your TD’s.

California Defenders (5-7) – In playoff hunt.  If the Defenders beat Show Me Your TD’s, they will lock up a playoff spot.  If they lose, Team Boutsis must also lose for The Defenders to make the playoffs.

Team Boutsis (5-7) – In playoff hunt.  If Team Boutsis beats One Goal 2012, they will make the playoffs.  If they lose, there is no chance to make the playoffs.

Show Me Your TD’s (4-8) – Out of the playoffs.  Sorry Geoff . . . you can still ruin Jordan’s season though . . .

THE DETMER AWARD

Week 12’s Detmer Award goes to Jordan Pierson, and the California Defenders.  The beat A Cinderella Story 204-155.  Although he is happy that his team is perfoming well at the end of the regular season, his sights are primarily set on making the playoffs.  He commented:

”I guarantee a playoff spot. If I’m wrong, I’ll give Commissioner Pierson permission to edit my logo as punishment.”

PFL - WEEK 12

WEEK 11 RECAP

Week 11’s biggest story was that One Goal 2012, upset A Cinderella Story.  Led by Andrew Luck, Jeff defeated Mitch 165–146.  Jeff had some comments for Mitch after the game:

"Mitch is a great guy, and I wish him the best. Not everybody is cut out for football at this level. Next year he could maybe call up Timmy and get something going that is more to his pace. It’s nothing personal but maybe he should stick to the basketball court from now on."

POWER RANKINGS

1) Team Washburn – 1,924
2) A Cinderella Story – 1,850
3) California Defenders – 1,775
4) The Griz – 1,773
5) The Swanson Meat Tornado – 1,726
6) Show Me Your TD’s – 1,719
7) Team Boutsis – 1,609
8) One Goal 2012 – 1,534

PLAYOFF ANALYSIS

The Griz – Clinched a playoff spot.  The Griz are now fighting to keep home field advantage, and are now tied with the Meat Tornado for the number 1 seed.  The Griz holds the tie-breaker since they have scored 47 more points so far this season.

The Swanson Meat Tornado – Clinched a playoff spot. They currently have the number 2 seed, and need to stay at least 1 game ahead of A Cinderella Story to keep it.  Cinderella Story holds the tie-breaker.

Team Washburn – Although they haven’t officially clenched a spot yet, they are the next closest to securing a playoff spot.  They are 1 game behind the Griz, and only need to tie Clark’s team to steal the #1 seed.

A Cinderella Story – Is in a similar position with Team Washburn.  They need to tie the Commissioner’s team to steal the #1 or #2 seed.  They also only need to tie, since they hold the tie-breaker over the Meat Tornado.

Team Boutsis – Is currently in the playoffs by 1 game.  Their biggest threat is either the California defenders, or Show Me Your TD’s stealing their spot.  Both are one game behind Team Boutsis, and both hold the tie-breaker over George’s team.

One Goal 2012 – Is currently in the playoffs by 1 game.  Their biggest threat is either the California defenders, or Show Me Your TD’s stealing their spot.  Both are one game behind One Goal 2012, and both hold the tie-breaker over Jeff’s team.

California Defenders – Is currently out of the playoffs by 1 game.  They need to at least tie with One Goal 2012 or Team Boutsis to make the playoffs.

Show Me Your TD’s – Is currently out of the playoffs by 1 game.  They need to at least tie with One Goal 2012 or Team Boutsis to make the playoffs.

THE DETMER AWARD

Led by Andre Johnson, Show Me Your TD’s dominated The Griz 198–128.  When asked for comment on his 2nd Detmer of the season, Geoff replied:

”I’m sure the Native Americans remember Thanksgiving a little different than we do.  Smallpox, seeing white people for the first time, and being forced by firestick to eat at a table.  Makes you think about $*#@, ya know . . .”

Geoff goes on to play Jeff Pierson of One Goal.  The winner will be on track to make the playoffs.

PFL - WEEK 10

POWER RANKINGS

A Cinderella Story continues to move up the power rankings.  This week they passed Mitch’s JV Team (The Griz) to claim the #2 spot.  It is interesting to note that even though One Goal 2012 is in last in the power rankings, they currently have a 1-game lead over the California Defendersand Show Me Your TD’s for playoff contention.

1) Team Washburn – 1,775
2) A Cinderella Story – 1,704
3) Mitch’s JV Team – 1,645
4) California Defenders – 1,607
5) The Swanson Meat Tornado – 1,601
6) Show Me Your TD’s – 1,521
7) Team Boutsis – 1,504
8) One Goal 2012 – 1,369

THE DETMER AWARD

Clark covered his whole face, so that if he ever became a politician,
this photo wouldn't come back to haunt him . . .

Mitch could not have had a better week last week.  He won the wager against Clark Pierson (Clark’s team was renamed “Mitch’s JV Team”, and he had to take the “bra” picture).  He also moved up in the power rankings, and he won his 3rd strait Detmer award (4 total on the season).  After last week’s game, Mitch commented:

"Clark is a great guy, and I wish him the best. Not everybody is cut out for football at this level. Next year he could maybe call up Timmy and get something going thatis more to his pace. It’s nothing personal but maybe he should stick to the basketball court from now on."

As of right now, Mitch holds the #2 seed for the playoffs; and goes on the face One Goal 2012 in week 11.

ANONYMOUS NOTE TO ONE GOAL 2012

This week I received an anonymous letter for One Goal 2012:

"This email is from an anonymous owner (GRIZ)

What is worse?  Joe Pierson setting his lineup each week and sucking....or Jeff Pierson setting his lineup each week and sucking worse?  This anonymous owner would like to set in motion a petition to investigate (One Goal 2012) to see if it just looks like he has thrown in the towel or is he actually doing it.  By the way...One Goal 2012 for what?  Losing!

This once proud owner is in dead last place by 135 points to Team Boutsis, (a team that was inherited from Joe Pierson) arguably the worse owner in our history and 152 points behind "Show me your TD's" what ever that means and who starts Andy Dalton and Josh Freeman...

If Jeff is actually trying to win, we have bigger problems....if he is trying to lose to get the #1 draft next year, someone needs to tell him that is not how this league is set up.  Hopefully he will become competitive soon as to not continue to bring the rest of the league down to his level.

Anonymous  (GRIZ)"

When asked for comment, Jeff Pierson replied:

"No comment . . . Well, one comment . . . I at least am still in the playoffs.  Whereas half of the Cosmo Kramer division is not . . ."

FINAL THOUGHTS

- Set your lineups
- Playoffs are in 3 weeks . . .
- Good luck in week 11!

PFL - WEEK 7

WEEK 6 RECAP

Hard to believe, but the 2012 fantasy regular season is already halfway over (playoffs start week 14).  Above I have posted what the playoff bracket would look like if they started today. These spots are not locked in by any means.  We still have a long way to go and, fantasy football success can change in the blink of an eye.

POWER RANKINGS

1) Team Washburn – 1,085
2) The Griz – 1,018
3) Show Me Your TD’s – 1,008
4) California Defenders - 962
5) A Cinderella Story - 939
6) The Swanson Meat Tornado - 892
7) Team Boutsis - 860
8) One Goal 2012 - 853

Only movers were Team Washburn moving to 1st, and One Goal 2012 moving from 6th to 8th.

LEAGUE BUSINESS

Since there were 3 opposed to me tweaking the league settings (with regards to playoff seeding) no changes will be made for the 2012-2013 season.    Looks like a toss-up as to who will get the number 2 seed, as all those in the Costanza division are close in the standings and power rankings. Next year, however, I will change the settings so that the teams with the best two records will get the 1st and 2nd seeds in the playoffs (regardless of division).

TRADE

After close examination, I have decided the trade between the California Defenders and Show Me Your TD’s to be fair, and was upheld.

THE DETMER AWARD

Team Washburn has been on a roll!  Not only did they take over first place in the standings and power rankings, but they were the first team to win the Detmer Award twice this year.  When asked for comment, Kimball replied:

"It looks like lightning does strike twice after all . . . My success can be attributed to 2 factors: 1) You have to follow your heart when it comes to setting your lineup, and 2) It doesn’t hurt when your QB’s can score 100 points by themselves."

Kimball has managed to thrive even though he is in the tougher Kramer Division, and has had the toughest schedule (1,025 points scored against).

GAME OF THE WEEK

Lot of interesting games this week, but the game of the week for week 7 is Team Washburn vs One Goal 2012.  It is projected, by ESPN analysts, to be the closest game this week.  Team Washburn has got the momentum, but One Goal 2012 has got something to prove.  Kimball commented:

"Normally the 1st place team is able to handle the last place team without much resistance, but One Goal scares us a little this week.  They are playing hungry . . ."

Jeff, of One Goal, stated:

"This week will show what I’m all about . . . a win will propel me into the playoffs . . . and a loss will make me a laughing stock to my fans . . . but more importantly, my family.  “I’m tired of getting paid to lose . . . I vant to vin” (in Jeff’s best Nacho Libre voice).
